Hontoon Island State Park, accessible only by boat or the park's ferry, is a secluded mecca of nature and history. The Mayaka Native Americans were the first known inhabitants of the island, and remnants of their past can be spotted as one hikes the winding trails. Walk through the visitors center and museum to learn more about the island's past before exploring it for yourself. Available activities include fishing, boating, paddling, hiking and biking, picnicing, and primitive camping either on your boat, a tent site or at a cabin. Boat slip rentals are available and Blue Spring Adventures offers kayak, canoe and bike rentals on the island.
