Lake Harney Wilderness Area covers about 300-acres along the St. Johns River at the northwest shore of Lake Harney. There are multiple trails to explore by bike, on foot or even on horseback including the Flagler Trail, the River Loop and Floodplain Loop. The Floodplain Loop floods seasonally, but is a great trail for wildlife viewing and birdwatching, and it includes an accessible observation deck for stunning views of the St. Johns River floodplain. At Lake Harney Wilderness Area you'll find history, from the Florida East Coast Railway to Native American shell middens, nature, from nesting bald eagles to mossy oak hammocks, and ecosystems ranging from hardwood swamps to floodplain marshes.
