Jacksonville’s diverse environment allows visitors and locals to have access to a great variety of activities and destinations! A huge aspect of the First Coast is the beauty of the St. Johns River — it is truly a defining ecosystem of our region.
Thanks to the St. Johns River, there are a plethora of waterfront parks and preservations throughout Northeast Florida that are perfect for a day spent out in nature. Grab your sunglasses and some sunscreen — today we’ll be diving into Bulls Bay Preserve!
The Basics of Bulls Bay Preserve
Located at 8017 Old Plank Road, Bulls Bay Preserve is a 1,222-acre public park. According to the City of Jacksonville website, Bulls Bay Preserve was “acquired on December 21, 1999, as part of a conservation easement for mitigation.”
The preserve consists of vast wetlands and tributaries that connect to both the Trout and Ortega Rivers.
Bulls Bay Preserve amenities include:
- Trails for hiking or biking
- Picnic benches and tables
- Public grills
- Parking area
- Public restrooms
- Beautiful scenery
If you’re looking to get out and do some hiking or biking, Bulls Bay Preserve is the perfect destination! Explore the northern swamp trail right off of Imeson Road, or the Old Plank Road trailhead, which features two miles of trails that are ideal for biking. You can even find a little waterfall along the way – not something you see often in Florida!
